an easy way to get this bug is trying to dock with Starton, undock, then dock with another station.

Replicated; didn't even require multiple stations. Save/quitting doesn't seem to resolve.

Short-term fix: destroy the station (with asteroid blowback, if possible, to reduce Consequences), and dock with its wreck. Docking with another station by any means would probably work. This seems to restore control.

assumedpseudonym 26 Nov 2019:

Replicating this bug with an abandoned enemy station results in being unable to dock anywhere. Gating lets dock at other stations again, but at the expense of being able to stop the ship with whatever key is assigned to the brakes.

This is a nasty one, Boss. I’d advise fixing this before your next stream if at all possible.

(Edit, my testing was done with an inertialess drive. Standard drives probably react a bit differently, if other posts are anything to go by.)

Maybe related to this (fixed) issue?

Replicated with destroyed enemy station. Stuck in slow docking movement towards station, but cannot dock or cancel docking. Hitting "D" just gives the message "no stations in range."

Also affects docking with ships. I even had a jumpdrive mounted, so I jumped away - and, yes, I was dragged back to the original ship I had docked with.

nms 10 Dec 2019:

Replicated with a cargo crate. staGetDockedShips reported my ship in both docking ports. shpGetDockObj reported my ship wasn't docked. I was trapped at a position only .16 light seconds from the center of the crate, which is approximately, but not exactly, between the docking ports.

By jettisoning items to create more crates (which I couldn't dock with because the ports were too far from where I was stuck), I determined that once you get in this state, cancelling docking doesn't free the docking port at all, even if you wait a long time to press the button.

Also, in the latest git version, if you cancel docking and don't reinitiate, the game crashes when you arrive at the port, so cancelling docking at all is guaranteed to either get you stuck or crash the game.

Fixed in 1.9 Alpha 4. Thanks!
