- Not sure if point-defense uses friendly-fire calculations. On the Twitch stream I had an Aegis auton shoot me in the back.
- Point-defense seems to be targeting dead missiles still.
Currently, auto-defense devices do not check for friendly-fire.
If friendly-fire check gets added, it would be nice if individual devices can override that and ignore friendly-fire checks. The Star Castle TC adventure mod uses auto-defense device to ignore friendly fire and spawn tracking mines.
@megas: Good to know! I'll do that.
Another idea for point-defense that can ignore friendly-fire: Auras or custom area-of-effects that damage only enemies and not hurt friends. That is, ship radiates some strange (invisible) field that only hurts enemies. This idea could be something given to high-powered sovereigns in VotG or beyond.
Ideas
-PD that takes control of enemy missiles and sends them back to whatever fired them.
-PD that pushes missiles away rather than damaging them
-PD that forces missiles to detonate immediately without damage

It may just be me, but I feel like NFF should keep its unspoken restriction to turrets. Trying to make it into a technology raises too many questions and messes with the interface(when do player - operated weapons consider neutral ships to be friendly)?
Of course, high powered endgame sovereigns could just use armor immune to whatever effects you'd like their weaponry to have, yielding a more elegant and versatile implementation of the same effect.
In 1.8 Beta 5 I added a new parameter: checkLineOfFire="true"
. This is set for core auto defense devices.
