This occurred after failing one convoy escort mission. The CSC assigned me another, but the convoy never spawned. Probably the result of some variable not getting cleared after mission failure.

Another issue with the mission is that the smaller freighters around the Superfreighters seem to thing that they are escorts, and break off to attack enemies.
