As an experiment, I added an enhancer device that added +mining to some of my short-ranged mod omni weapons. While it applied the enhancement and the shots mined asteroids and targeted enemies, it did not gain the ability to target and fire at asteroids when there was nothing else to target. I had to aim and shoot the weapon as if it had no fire arc to mine asteroids.
