This would address the problem of artifacts being unsellable to stations.

And/or some stations should have more money.

Rather than artificially decreasing the price, why not settle with an exchange instead?

The amount of credits that a station has is limited, but not the real value of its cargo.
So instead of paying in credits, a station could offer to trade in items and credits.

You could then distribute the bought goods for your sold item and regain all of its initial value in credits.

This applies to any currency, not just credits, but for the sake of simplicity I used credits.

This system is also self-balancing. While a low-level station still might not be able to afford a 1M credits weapon, a high-level station can because the real value of their cargo is enough to afford it.

Seconded pls. Apparently people on the Discord said that there's a lot of ways to not have enough money in the game, and that "not having enough money" from stations is a bit absurd.

Since credits and rins are virtual currencies, I don't see how stations wouldn't be able to take out instant loans to buy commodities. Or even have hawala brokers or something like that. From a gameplay perspective though it's not as clearcut.

From a gameplay perspective, I want to have these limits to prevent the player from getting too much money. Without these limits, we would have to be much more careful about spawning treasures.

That said, the way the limits are currently implemented make it difficult to properly balance. In particular, because you have to manually specify the limits, it is too easy to set the wrong one. To fix this, the engine now sets proper defaults for those limits. See: API 44.

In addition, I still think there should be more places to sell these high value items. A few ideas:

  • Black Market should offer reduced rates for notable artifacts (on the assumption that they are stolen).
  • It should be possible to sell some the unique artifacts to museums (perhaps in St. Kats or elsewhere).
  • It should be possible to sell expensive artifacts to rich Corporate collectors.

I'm leaving this open until we implement some of the above.

I'd like to request that if you have an item that has a value higher than the amount of money the station has, they'll offer to buy it for all of their money. There's a few items in the late game that are nearly impossible to sell, like enhanced 500MW reactors or yellow etherium crystals. It'd be nice to be able to get *something* for them instead of just giving up and jettisoning this theoretically-valuable item because it's too expensive to sell.
