Since ringers have had their weapon range increased, if they spawn too closely to a hostile station that has patrolling guards, the Ringers will pick off every ship that comes into range. If the range was increased to the enemy exclusion radius range, then maybe the patrolling ship distance should be taken into consideration.

With Ares shipyards, for instance, this means a huge field of wrecks and the Ringers eventually succumbing to phobos.

I ticketed something similar a while back - min distance between hostile stations should be equal to max(first station's weapon range, set of sums of all guard patrol distances and weapon ranges for first station) + max(second station's weapon range, set of sums of all guard patrol distances and weapon ranges for second station).

Patrolling ships have a very wide range, though, so including patrols in this might cause problems. I suggest having patrols avoid hostile stations through the same method as Korolov freighters.

Here's your related ticket, John: http://ministry.kronosaur.com/record.hexm?id=26030

Ships don't patrol very far from their station (aside from special conditions) so increasing exclusion radius would be an easy fix. Not sure if that's the direction that should be taken, though.

In 1.7 Beta 6 I've increased the enemy exclusion radius for both Ringer shipyards and Ares shipyards to 150.

Previously, the exclusion zone was 100 ls. With Deimos destroyers orbiting at 30 ls or so, the distance was cut to 70 ls.
